Meet Sonja Huege, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor offering trauma & CouPles Therapy in North Vancouver

Welcome, it’s so nice to meet you. I love my job. I can tell you who I am, but I would rather show you. Usually you can tell within the first few minutes of a free 20 minute call if you get the sense that I’m the kind of person you can tell things to. The kind of clinician who knows what she’s talking about and can see what you’re going through and the type of support you need.

However, until I get the privilege of meeting you, here are a few things that might be important for you to know. I practice what I preach and I do my own therapy. I have brilliant supervisors, and am consistently in trainings that help me stay on top of the new discoveries we are making in the field as well as the old wisdom that we need to be reminded of sometimes.

I believe that a good therapist is forthright with their clients and that the most caring thing you can do for someone is be honest with them. Even in our consultation, if I don’t think I’m the right person to help you, I’ll tell you that and will give you great referrals. I want your feedback, I want to meet you in all of your nuances. I am a safe person to be honest with.

I see a limited number of clients so that you’re not just a number. My sessions are 60 minutes rather than 50 to give you time to get settled when you arrive and before you leave. I’ve had a break before I’ve seen you, I’m ready for the hour where I get the privilege of getting to support you.

For the last 5 years, I have been working at the BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse. This deeply challenging and rewarding work has been foundational in how I approach counselling. I have had the immense honour of watching men transform their wounds and create the lives they want to lead.

Trauma Informed Counselling for Adults and Couples

Therapy that goes beyond symptom management

I commonly support clients who are:

  • Experiencing fresh challenges such as a break up, discovering a betrayal, moving to a new place, changing jobs, becoming new parents, wanting to begin a process of knowing themselves better

  • Seeking trauma therapy after years of coping or previous counselling

  • Interested in EMDR therapy in North Vancouver with a knowledgable, ethical clinician

  • Living with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, dissociation, or numbness

  • Wanting deeper connection in their relationships, whether they’re already in them or are wanting to develop new ones

  • Male survivors of sexual abuse looking for a therapist who can truly hold the work

Some people are ready to dive into therapy head first, coming weekly and doing deep trauma work, other people need to dip their toe in slowly. I want to hear what you’re needing from me to feel a tangible difference in your life.

Let’s have a chat.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want to work on before reaching out. If something in you is stirring, curiosity, exhaustion, or a quiet sense that it’s time, that’s enough.

I offer a free consultation so we can talk about what’s bringing you here and whether working together feels like the right fit. Fit is everything in counselling. If either of us isn’t quite sure, I will give you the names of other folks who might be better for you, so either way this call will lead to some direction.
